USDA Issues Final Rule on Voluntary "Product of USA" Claims

USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service published its Final Rule on Voluntary Labeling of FSIS-Regulated Products with U.S.-Origin Claims. In announcing the new requirements, USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack explained that the Final Rule “ensure[s] that when consumers see ‘Product of USA’ they can trust the authenticity of that label and know that every step involved, from birth to processing, was done here in America.”

These Countries Are Doing Nutrition Labels the Right Way

Updated: FSIS Guideline for Label Approval

In March, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service released updated guidelines for label approval. The guidance helps establishments determine whether their labels must be submitted to FSIS Labeling and Program Delivery Staff (LPDS) for approval.

FDA Issues Import Alert for Food Products with Chemical Contaminants Including PFAS

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a new import alert for human food products with detectable levels of chemical contaminants that may present a safety concern to human health. These contaminants include benzene, dioxins and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), among others.

FDA Revokes Standards of Identity and Quality for Frozen Cherry Pie

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is revoking the standards of identity and quality for frozen cherry pie. The standards are no longer necessary to ensure that these products meet consumer expectations, and revoking the standards will provide greater flexibility and the opportunity for product innovation.
