FDA Announces New Guidance and Exemptions Under Food Traceability Rule

On February 19, 2026, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced multiple actions intended to support implementation of the Food Traceability Rule. As part of its announcement, FDA released a detailed Questions and Answers (Q&A) guidance document to help industry better interpret the rule.

The Trump administration is preparing to “act on” a petition to review the safety of ultraprocessed ingredients like high fructose corn syrup, U.S. Health and Human Service Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said, though he stopped short of calling for new regulation for the packaged food industry.

Texas Court Puts Injunction on Plan for Ingredient Warning Labels

A judge has issued an order preventing Texas from implementing warning labels for food and drink products containing certain ingredients. The decision came in a case filed by four associations representing manufacturers: the American Beverage Association, the Consumer Brands Association, the National Confectioners Association and FMI, the Food Industry Association.
