FDA Completes Final Administrative Actions on Partially Hydrogenated Oils in Foods

The FDA is issuing a direct final rule to complete administrative actions that reflect the agency’s June 2015 final determination that the use of partially hydrogenated oils (PHOs) in foods is no longer Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS).

The US Food and Drug Administration has selected James “Jim” Jones as the first Deputy Commissioner for Human Foods to lead the Agency’s proposed unified Human Foods Program (HFP).

FDA Proposes Changes to Canned Tuna Standard that Could Save Millions of Dollars, Allow Flexibility for Innovation

A proposal by FDA to update how tuna is weighed and the type of packing medium allowed under the standard of identity for canned tuna could save millions of dollars annually, give consumers more transparency about the amount of fish in cans and allow manufacturers to more easily innovate to meet consumers’ evolving tastes and preferences.

Kellogg’s Is Going to War Over Mexico’s Nutrition Label Rules. A Similar Fight Is Coming to the U.S.

Kellogg’s is waging a war here over Tigre Toño and Sam el Tucán. A 2019 policy requires companies that make unhealthy foods to include warning labels on the front of any boxes they sell in Mexico to educate consumers about things like excess sugar and fat. Now, U.S. regulators are considering a similar policy, because they say it will help consumers make healthier decisions.

USDA Enforcement Report for the 3rd Quarter Is In

The Quarterly Enforcement Report for April 1, 2023, to June 30, 2023, shows carcass inspections for livestock fell to 39,410 570. It was the first time in Fiscal Year 2023 that the number fell below 40 million. Poultry inspections remained at the 2.4 billion level where they’ve been all year.
