Last month, the Presidential Commission to Make America Healthy Again (MAHA), led by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., released an assessment of the escalating crisis of chronic diseases among American children.

Texas Bill Would Require Warning Label on Some Popular Snack Foods

A Texas state bill, Senate Bill 25, would require manufacturers put a label on certain foods to warn they're "not recommended for human consumption by the appropriate authority in Australia, Canada, the European Union, or the United Kingdom." The bill targets 44 ingredients including food dyes, bleached flour, and certain oils and preservatives.

FDA Extending the Comment Period for Front-of-Package Nutrition Labeling

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is extending the comment period for the proposed rule on a front-of-package (FOP) nutrition labeling scheme for 60 days, until July 15, 2025. Front-of-package nutrition labeling is intended to provide accessible, at-a-glance information to help consumers quickly and easily identify how foods can be part of a healthy diet.

Mondelēz Sues Aldi Over Private Label Packaging that ‘Blatantly Copies’ Oreo and Chips Ahoy!

Mondelēz International is demanding that Aldi change the packaging for several of its private label snacks, alleging in a lawsuit that the grocer’s offerings copy the packaging of Oreos, Chips Ahoy! and five other of the snack giant’s brands. The lawsuit, filed on May 27 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, claims Aldi’s packaging may cause consumers to associate a connection between the retailer and snack maker.

An E. Coli Outbreak in Lettuce Killed 1 and Sickened Dozens—Why Didn't the FDA Say Anything?

An investigation from NBC News recently discovered that a deadly E. coli outbreak linked to contaminated romaine lettuce ripped across the U.S. near the end of 2024—but the Food and Drug Administration never informed the public about it.

Expiration Date Was Most Popular Food Label for Adults, Followed by Nutrition Facts

The Economic Research Service at USDA recently published a report using National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data to examine the potential dietary benefits associated with consumer use of packaged food labels. The study found that from 2017 to March 2020, 92 percent of consumers reported regularly using the expiration date.
