FDA Cuts Trans Fat in Processed Foods

 

Trans fat intake has been linked to an increased risk of coronary heart disease by contributing to the buildup of plaque inside the arteries that may cause a heart attack. Now, the FDA is taking a step to remove artificial trans fat from the food supply. This step is expected to reduce coronary heart disease and prevent thousands of fatal heart attacks every year.

FDA Issues Final Guidance on Food Allergen Labeling Exemptions

 

FDA has finalized its labeling rules for foods containing allergens-including common types such as milk, eggs, peanuts and shellfish-which allows food manufacturers to qualify for a labeling exemption if they can prove an ingredient is modified so that it no longer presents a risk to allergic consumers.

Revised House Bill Would Nullify State GMO Labeling Laws

 

U.S. Reps Mike Pompeo and G.K. Butterfield have begun circulating a revised draft of H.R. 1599 (The Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act) that not only would seek to block states from implementing their own mandatory GMO labeling laws for food but also nullify existing state and local restrictions on the planting of GMO crops.
